Orzo in cheese sauce with crispy bacon and sautéed snow peas
A creamy orzo dish bathed in a rich cheese sauce and accompanied by crispy bacon and sautéed snow peas. Ideal for a quick and easy family meal that combines the smoothness of cheese with the crispy touch of bacon.

Ingredients
- 180 g orzo
- 1 unit shallot, chopped
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 400 ml water
- 100 g snow pea, halved
- 20 g grated Parmesan cheese
- 20 g cream cheese
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 teaspoon flour
- 150 ml milk
- 100 g bacon
- 20 ml olive oil
- salt
- ground black pepper
Instructions
- Peel and chop the shallot and garlic. In a saucepan, heat a drizzle of oil over low heat. Add the shallot and garlic and cook for 2 minutes until golden. Stir in the orzo and cook for 1 minute over medium heat. Add the water and cook for 10-15 minutes, stirring, until the orzo is tender. Season with salt and pepper.
- Trim the ends from the snow peas and cut them in half. In a skillet, heat a drizzle of oil over medium-high heat. Add the snow peas, season with salt and pepper, and sauté for 3-4 minutes until golden. Remove and set aside. Add a little more oil and sauté the bacon for 3-5 minutes until crispy. Set aside.
- Make the cheese sauce: In the skillet, heat the butter over medium-low heat until melted. Add the flour and cook for 1 minute, stirring. Stir in the grated Italian cheese, cream cheese, and milk, and cook for 1-2 minutes over low heat, stirring, until thickened and smooth. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- When the orzo is cooked, add the cheese sauce to the saucepan and mix well. Taste and adjust salt and pepper. Plate the sauced orzo on the bottom of a dish, top with the sautéed snow peas, and garnish with the crispy bacon.
